ESCARGOT '99

These are pictures from ESCARGOT, the Experimental Southern CAlifornia Recreational Gaming Outing and Tournament, an event organized by Lou Krieger to allow participants in the newsgroup rec.gambling.poker and players of IRC poker to gather in person. Here is the schedule and email which was sent out announcing the event.

I will try to label these, but I am terrible with names, so if i left you out or got you wrong, please email and correct me.

Thursday Brunch. Clockwise from the bottom left: Jerrod, JP Massar, Clark Olson (seated), Mike Caro - the Mad Genius of Poker (standing), Max Shapiro (standing), Ploink (seated), Mike Osborne (seated), Newjane (standing and looking down demurely), a tiny bit of Big John Hartzell's face (seated, in yellow), and Lou Krieger (sitting with back facing camera).

Thursday Brunch. Counterclockwise "S"shape, from right: Max Shapiro, Albert Wang, Ron Garcia, Mike Caro, Jerrod (seated), JP Massar (seated), Clark Olson (seated), Ploink (seated).

An early round of the Matchplay tournament in progress.

The infamous matchup of Maverick against Caro. It ended thusly: Maverick made a preflop raise with AK which Caro called with AJ. Maverick then made a blind all-in bet on the flop, which came jack high. Caro called, and his pair of jacks held up to win the round.

The final match, Mike Caro against Doug Sohn. Caro lost, but making it to the final match did a great deal to substantiate his wild claims of poker mastery.

Shh, don't tell Crystal Park...poker is even more fun without the rake! We played pot-limit, no-limit, Chowaha, lowball, draw, 5-stud, holdem hi/lo split, and even a little CRAZY Pineapple.
