It's been a week since I posted this, so I'll do it again, in case any of you
missed it the first go-round.
ESCARGOT, the first Experimental Southern California Recreational Gaming Outing
and Tournament, a BARGE-like event in the Los Angeles Area, will be held
Thursday through Sunday, February 4 - 7, 1999. ESCARGOT will be headquartered
at Crystal Park Hotel and Casino, with events scheduled for both Crystal Park
and Hollywood Park casinos.
I've had some questions about ESCARGOT, and will try to answer them here.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR ESCARGOT?
To ensure that ESCARGOT events are limited to the on-line community, I'm asking
everyone interested in attending to e-mail me. Your name will be on hand when
you sign up for the various events at ESCARGOT. Like BARGE, you can pick and
choose the events you want to partake in.
WILL THERE BE A CALCUTTA AUCTION FOR THE MATCH PLAY HOLD'EM TOURNAMENT?
No official Calcutta auction has been scheduled, but if there is sufficient
interest, and we can find a volunteer willing to keep books on this event
(laptops come in very handy for this -- just like they did at BARGE) we can
organize an informal Calcutta prior to the no-limit match play event. If
anyone is interested in volunteering to help with a Calcutta, please let me
know; there's no way I can do this on my own.
HOW DO I REGISTER TO STAY AT CRYSTAL PARK? To get a room at ESCARGOT, you'll
have to call Crystal park Hotel and Casino and make reservations. Phone
numbers for Dave Baudoin and Jenny Kaye, with whom you can make room
reservations at the ESCARGOT rate, are listed below the schedule of events, at
the bottom of this post.

Thursday, February 4th:
… Complimentary breakfast at Crystal Park Casino 7:00 am - 10:00 a.m.
… Free $15 buy-in coupon for the noon 7-card stud hi/lo poker tournament at
Crystal Park. This event has a $2,000 guaranteed prize pool, and features $10
re-buys. (This is an open event and is the only event NOT specifically
reserved for ESCARGOT attendees.)
… Special Dinner Buffet for ESCARGOT attendees at the Crystal Park Grand
Marquis Restaurant 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. $10.
… ESCARGOT Hold'em-Omaha hi/lo-7/Stud hi/lo (H.O.E.) Tournament. $50 buy-in +
$10 entry fee, no re-buys. 9:00 p.m.
Friday, February 5th:
… Complimentary breakfast at Crystal Park Casino 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
… Visit to the new, world-class Long Beach Aquarium. 10:00 a.m. $20.
… Limit Hold'em Tournament, Hollywood Park Casino $50 buy-in + $10 entry. No
re-buys. 3:00 p.m.
… Visit to Mike Caro University, and free poker seminar 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 6th:
… Complimentary breakfast at Crystal Park Casino 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
… No-Limit Hold'em MATCH PLAY Championship. $100 buy-in + $20 entry fee. No
re-buys. This event will feature a double elimination format, with the winner
of the loser's bracket to meet the winner's bracket champion. Match play will
be limited to 64 entrants - or 128, if we get a lot of attendees. Scheduled for
3:00 p.m.
… Dinner and Awards Banquet $25. Scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, February 7th:
… Open Play
HOW MUCH WILL ESCARGOT COST?
Crystal Park Hotel is offering a special room rate of $35 per night for
ESCARGOT attendees. Free transportation to and from Los Angeles International
Airport will be provided for guests arriving Wednesday afternoon and Thursday
morning, and for those departing on Sunday. Free transportation to and from the
Aquarium, and to and from Hollywood Park will also be provided.
The total cost for all ESCARGOT events is $285, exclusive of re-buys and
lodging. This includes free breakfasts, the Aquarium visit, a Mike Caro
Seminar at Hollywood Park, as well as a free buy-in to the noon tournament on
Thursday. In addition, ESCARGOT attendees will receive some promotional items,
such as a hat or T-shirt.
HOW CAN I MAKE ROOM RESERVATIONS?
To make room reservations, call either Dave Baudoin, Poker Room Manager at
Crystal Park at 310.764.7694 or poker special events coordinator Jenny Kaye at
310.661.4877. These are Dave and Jenny's direct phone lines. If they are not
answered, just keep trying. Phoning directly is the easiest way to ensure
registrations will be limited to the R.G.P. community.
