These guys call themselves skeptics? (8/13/02)

From p. 30 of the July/August Skeptical Inquirer, explaining why the tremendous advances in astronomy demonstrate the power and ability of Science:

"Modern cosmology removes a problem of the origin of our universe, asserting that it, as well as other universes, spontaneously arose from a primary vacuum..."

So the problem of how the universe got here has been removed by the unsupported assertion that it magically appeared from nowhere? Boy, science sure is great!

Note: I am not anti-Science. I am very pro-science. But I get amused and annoyed by the zealousness of hardcore skeptics, which sometimes resembles the zealousness of certain other groups the skeptics claim to be utterly different than.

A good essay (previously a talk) analyzing this can be found here.
