War Tidbits - Woad Is Me
The woad plant, usually considered a weed, has gained interest recently as a renewable source of the dye indigo, used to make things blue. In a far-gone age, it was used by the ancient Britons to paint themselves for war. There are rumours and urban legends about it having stimulant/psychedelic effects as well as being mere decoration, but I have found zero corroboration for this in any reputable source. Still, it makes a good body paint. Unlike Henna, it only lasts a day, as it sits on the surface of the skin rather than dying it, but it makes nice looking marks. One day as I wandered by the camp next door, they were having a woad session, and I joined in. You can see the resultant handiwork in one of my picture galleries.
